Sedimentary Geochemistry, Stratigraphy, Biogeochemistry

Department of Earth, Ocean & Atmospheric Science at Florida State University
My research focuses on the linkages of tectonics, chemical oceanography, biology, and climate to long-term changes in the carbon and oxygen cycles on Earth. This work utilizes principles of sedimentology, strartigraphy, geochemistry, and paleontology to piece together multifaceted major climatic and biotic events in Earth's history. I am interested in the causes major transitional periods of Earth's past climate state that have often been associated with mass extinction events. Additionally, I am focused on reconstructing the biogeochemical sulfur and carbon cycles throughout Earth's history in attempt to establish linkages with the evolution of the biosphere. A broad understanding of the initiation and feedback mechanisms and their effects on life and climate during these past events will certainly give us insights into how the Earth system will respond to ongoing and future climate perturbations.
